Horse & Human Behaviour
With Tanja Kraus and Linda Sawrey
|
Join Tanja and Linda as they share their expertise and experiences to help you understand your and your horses behaviours.
Why do they think, feel, respond and react the way that they do, and why do we think, feel, respond and react the way we do? And most importantly, how can we train them, and ourselves to be more calm, responsive and confident in situations and relationships. Understanding our horses, and ourselves on a deeper level gives us a meaningful connection. This is a collaboration between two like-minded professionals: myself, (Tanja), an experienced horsewoman with a deep focus on anxiety and confidence-building in both horses and people; and Linda Sawrey, an accomplished horsewoman in her own right, and a highly qualified Psychotherapist, Clinical Counsellor, and Registered Nurse with over 35 years of experience. Together, we’ve created an immersive and life-changing retreat that offers personal support, practical tools, and a space for true transformation. What to Expect: • One-on-one sessions with Linda to explore the roots of anxiety and confidence challenges with tailored techniques to reframe response patterns and develop individualized strategies for growth. • Group lessons in human physiology and psychology – what’s happening in your body and mind, and how to work with it • Group sessions Group sessions focus on understanding human neurobiology—how your brain and nervous system influence your body and mind—and provide practical ways to work with these processes to reshape responses for healthier, more adaptive reactions. • Live horse demonstrations – learn to read body language and manage tricky situations before they escalate • Horse sessions – build mutual confidence and strengthen your partnership • Nature walks, waterfall visits, and swims – Reconnect with yourself and the land, including invigorating experiences like natural ice baths. The Setting: This retreat takes place on a stunning 400-acre private property featuring: • A fully-equipped barn-style kitchen/dining/lounge area with fireplace • Undercover arena, round yards, and an extensive outdoor obstacle course • Onsite camping (required) with space for horse floats • Horse yards and all kitchen amenities available Please note: Early mornings and evening sessions are part of the experience-- we’re diving deep! This course is to be held in the amazing Hinterland of the Gold Coast, right near the Natural Arch / Natural Bridge. Please note that if you are coming from NSW please navigate Via Nerang on the Gold Coast –– your GPS may offer alternative routes through Kyogle or Murwillumbah –– these are not suitable for horse trailers! Investment: $1850 without Horse ( Horse and Human retreats are $2200) This is a special 2026 price—future retreats will be priced higher. We’ve kept the group small (only 10 spots) to ensure everyone gets personalized attention. • Next Retreat runs June 5th–7th (This one is attendance without a horse) • Arrival recommended March 9th • Group closing night on March 14 | Depart March 15th Important: Horses must be Hendra vaccinated—a requirement of the property. About Linda Sawrey:
Linda Sawrey is a psychotherapist, clinical counsellor and founder of Nurtured by Nature Psychotherapy, a practice that blends evidence-based psychotherapy with room-based, nature- and equine-assisted techniques. Known for a compassionate, holistic style, Linda draws on a rare combination of leadership and lived experience to support individuals and organisations navigate life’s journey. For 35 years she held senior leadership roles in quality improvement, consumer feedback, accreditation compliance, risk and patient safety, and has worked as a Registered Nurse. Linda’s academic credentials include an MBA, a Master in Gestalt Therapy, a Government Investigator Certificate and a Nursing degree. She specialises in supporting individuals across a range of areas, including building self-confidence and self-esteem, navigating life transitions, managing change and stress, and regulating emotional and nervous-system responses. She has particular interest and expertise in working with neurodivergence (including Autism and ADHD), health and chronic illness, reproductive lifespan issues, trauma and domestic abuse, grief, anxiety and depression. Linda also offers organisational psychotherapy—applying psychological principles at a systemic level to uncover emotional patterns, unconscious relational dynamics and the human impact of decisions. Her leadership and team programs include nature- and equine-based experiences as core components, using nature and horses to surface dynamics, build trust, manage stress and trauma, resolve conflict, and strengthen collaboration, engagement, resilience and psychological flexibility. She offers confidential support for leaders and business owners to strengthen resilience, emotional intelligence, decision-making under stress, and change-readiness. Linda co-facilitates small, immersive transformational retreats with a human-and-horse focus for both riders and non-riders. Retreats feature a nature & equine approach, one-on-one sessions, group lessons on human physiology, psychology and relationships, live horse demonstrations and hands-on horse sessions to strengthen partnership, plus restorative nature experiences such as walks, waterfall visits and natural ice-bath opportunities. Born into a large farming family of returned soldier settlers, Linda’s connection to land and animals is deeply personal and lifelong. Her passion for horses has guided over 40 years of hands-on experience breeding, educating, and riding — she is an Equine AI Technician, a certified barefoot practitioner, and the owner of Ricinda Ranch, a Quarter Horse stud specialising in versatile horses with rare colours. Linda runs nature-based, animal-assisted sessions at Ricinda Ranch, where her deep love of horses and extensive practical experience directly inform and enrich her equine-assisted psychotherapy; she is also deeply committed to the mental health and well‑being of her horses, ensuring their care, welfare and emotional resilience are central to everything she does. |
