I am eternally grateful that I had the experience of restarting my off the track thoroughbred gelding with Tanja. I have a horse with a solid foundation to build on, who feels safe enough with me to rely on me when he's scared or uncertain, a horse whose try is epic and who is progressing faster than I could ever have thought! I can't wait to do this course again with an unstarted horse, and discover new depths of learning. Our Young Horse start or 'Colt Start program is for those wanting to start their own horse under saddle, or restart their horse under saddle.
Using Tanjas approach and philosophy to gently build your citizen while also preserving the horse over 14 days of immersion.

If you want to take your horsemanship to the next level, start or restart your horse at Tanja's fourteen day colt start course. It is a total immersion experience for both you and your horse, progressing from on the ground basics and citizen building exercises to confidently riding out on trails. Tanja has a rigorous program of tasks and skills to learn which function to not only build a polite and safe horse, but enable your horse to learn to learn, to look to you for guidance and confidence in uncertain situations, and to show up any 'holes' or issues that a horse might have-particularly useful in restarting horses with unknown backgrounds and issues from previous training.

Tanja's attention to detail both training people to present a task to the horse and scrutinising the horse's response really tunes up a student's skill level. The opportunity to closely observe other student and horse combinations multiplies the learning opportunity. Her 'no dust' approach makes learning enjoyable for the horse-no endless drilling. Working with each horse at liberty allows for full self expression and no hiding of heightened emotions, and provides a really cooperative way to help a horse get to a good emotional place. Tanja is all about preserving the horse's confidence, curiosity and try.

A big part of the course is setting you up for continuing the process on your own after the course is over, with an individually tailored plan for building the horse's education.
